Finally...

I remember back in 2002 (I was 14, just starting high school in a new city), the NHL season had just started and the Colorado Avalanche were set to face the Boston Bruins. Being a Colorado fan in Canada, it was exceptionally rare to see the Colorado Avalanche on TV. I would be able to see maybe 5 games a season and unfortunately, my parents wouldn’t allow me to have the NHL network (if it was even around then?) The only way was for the Avalanche to be playing a Canadian team on a nationally broadcasted telecast. For whatever reason though, this game was on.

I remember racing home from school only to find out that I had to go out with my parents to their dinner plans that night and would have to miss the game. With no means of recording it, that was it. My chance to watch the game was over. I remember, begging (and I’m sure, whining) to my mom to allow me to stay home alone – after all, I was now in high school and after trying every trick in the books. I was allowed to stay home…

It was my day to shine. I could watch the game in peace, eat what I wanted, drink how much ever pop I chose and at the time - the world was my oyster.

To the best of my memory, it was a tight game, an edge of your seat type game until the final seconds dwindled down and as everybody was anticipating overtime, Boston’s Sergei Samsonov scored on Patrick Roy with less than a second to go.
I was crushed. It was one of the first games I was ever actually mad about (there have only been a few since – I swear!) and it is, still to this day, why I absolutely despise Sergei Samsonov, wherever he is now.

I was young, obviously immature but that was my first opportunity to stay home to watch hockey and he blew it...

Until yesterday.

Another tight affair between Boston and Colorado and as we felt like we were headed to overtime, Daniel Briere got my revenge and scored with 0.4 seconds to go, defeating the Bruins in regulation, with the exact same score as a decade before, 2-1. This game was a true moral victory. It may only be two points in the standings for the team and the first win of the season for most fans but to me it was a chance to finally stick it to the Bruins, who had stuck it to me years before.

Thank you Daniel Briere.

Oh, and Sergei…you are forgiven…

I have never liked Briere, never.

He's always been on the list of players i'd like to punch in the face, right next to Patrick Elias.

And now, i have yet another reason to dislike briere...one second left, really ?

    Bastard.

Don't worry, you aren't the only one. I'm still trying to look at him without cringing. Something about that ugly mug of his. Zack Kassian, Ryan Kesler and Alex Burrows are a few others I wouldn't mind. Throw in retired Eric Lindros, Dominik Hasek and Alex Kovalev and you've got a cl525 punching party.

Actually, you can add Dale Wiese to that list. No wonder Lucic wants to get after him..look at that face.

ok the real question is did your wife allow you to drink as much of any beverage that you would like during the game? Did she allow you to stay home alone while she took the family out to chuckie cheese..............did you jump up and yell with joy like a 14 year old boy when they scored the goal ok apparently that is actually 3 questions
