Looks like the Flyers have been told to get physical.

Well, I wasn't very happy with that game. For some reason, we can't get a puck past Dubnyk. The Flyers had plenty of top chances, but Dubnyk was too good....or they played the puck to a worse option.

    Trav's Take

    The Good

    - Ummm..Elliott kept the Flyers in the game and continued to cover up the big mistakes in front of him. He only let in 1 goal on the night, with the other two goal being empty net goals. He saved 17 of 18 shots. I think he will start getting frustrated soon, if not already. He is playing very well, but not getting much for his efforts.
    - Top line. Although, the top line didn't score, they had plenty of chances and dominated when on the ice. Plenty of forced turn-overs and cycling going on. They had 7 shots between the 3 forwards with Voracek getting 5.
    - Discipline was good from the Flyers. Only one PK on a poor Simmonds holding penalty. It looked like the game could possible turn physical in the 2nd and 3rd, but it held off. Which leads me to start thinking, that the players are giving it up a little.
    - In saying the above, I do think a lot of players are trying very hard to break out, but can't. Konecny, Leier, Weal, Laughton, Sanheim and some of the older guys in Weise, Filppula and Lehtera.
    - Simmonds looking a lot better after a bad few games. Rumor had it, that Simmonds was carrying an injury. He was looking a lot better tonight jumping into play and having a bit of the speed and hard edge around the net. If it was an injury , and he is now healthy, hopefully he can start producing again.

    The Bad
    - Scoring, Scoring, Scoring. After a very fast scoring pace to start the season, it's taken a big nose dive and doesn't present any danger right now. The defenders look to be sitting back again, instead of setting those shots loose. Some forwards look a little lost entering the zone. I lost count tonight, how many times, they entered the zone, and tried a low percentage pass to someone that had 3 Wild players on them. No look missed passes and maybe a lack of communication won't go down too well.
    - New lines. I mentioned a change to lines 2 and 3 a few games ago, and they finally did it. Hakstol and Hextall know more than me about all of these players and where they are best suited, but I really didn't like those lines. It is early days and they could still build some chemistry, but I just really don't think Lehtera should even be in the lineup. Personally, I don't think he provides much over a re-call player from the AHL. Weise is nearly on the same boat. Weise on the 2nd line?? Maybe 5 years ago. 2nd line was Weise - Weal - Simmonds. 3rd line was Lehtera - Filppula - Konecny. I would like to see how Konecny - Weal - Simmonds would go. Weise gets left in the dust on the 2nd line. Konecny has mostly player LW, so should probably stay there. Those 3 would be quick and good cycling down low. Simmonds could park in front of the net with Konecny and Weal wheeling around. Weal is eventually going to break out on goals, and I think that Konecny and his passing and skating speed, could help that. I feel that the 4th line has gone a bit cold, but if they could get there energy play going again, they could be on 3rd line minutes instead of the pensioners club. They are about on par with the 3rd line in minutes right now though.

    The Memorable
    - That first Minnesota goal. Wow! That was shocking for us Flyers fans. Provorov got a hold of the puck after a short board battle. He thought Staal was gone, he went for the pass and got stick lifted. Staal then stole the puck, quickly got down low and then fed a pass to Niederreiter for a goal over the left pad, far side. Only 12 seconds into the game to get the game winner. Provorov may be young, but he is a lot smarter than that. Staal out did him.

    My Three Stars

    1st Dubnyk
    2nd Niederreiter
    3rd Staal

    Honorable Mentions- Elliott, Zucker, Voracek
