James Van Riemsdyk signs with Flyers

Rumor is that JVR is making a Flyers comeback. The Flyers have a need for a big left winger that can score, and JVR fits that bill. I didn't expect that the Flyers would pursue him, but I think he will be a good pickup if for the right price and term

James van Riemsdyk will sign with the Philadelphia Flyers as an unrestricted free agent Sunday, TSN reported.

The 28-year-old forward had 54 points, including an NHL career-high 36 goals, in 81 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2017-18, when he completed a six-year contract he signed with the Flyers on Aug. 30, 2011.

Van Riemsdyk was acquired by Toronto in a trade from Philadelphia for defenseman Luke Schenn on June 23, 2012. He had 294 points (154 goals, 140 assists) in 413 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs after scoring 99 (47 goals, 52 assists) in 196 games over three seasons with the Flyers.

Philadelphia selected van Riemsdyk in the first round (No. 2) of the 2007 NHL Draft. He has 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists) in 59 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
